The sustainable, organically certified company Florida Food Products Inc. runs a cultivation project in Mexico (Central America). Aloe vera grows in its natural environment here.
The plant is native to this region because the soil is volcanic in origin and is rich in calcium and magnesium. Thanks to the warm, dry climate, the plant grows all year round. The 2-3-year-old outer leaves of the aloe vera are harvested, washed and finely filleted by hand within a few hours to obtain the gel inside. In contrast to machine processing, this removes the aloin almost completely. Aloin is a substance found within the skin of the leaves and which has a laxative effect. The gentle processing and subsequent freeze-drying eliminates the need to treat the aloe vera powder with preservatives. No carrier substances are added either. Aloe vera moisturises the skin.
